ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002 is being organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Government of the People's Republic of China. Returning once again to Hong Kong after the resounding success at ASIA 2000, it will be the ITU's sixth TELECOM event for the Asia-Pacific region.

The ITU has the overall responsibility for organising the Event. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has established a "Hong Kong, China Secretariat" within the Office of the Telecommunications Authority to facilitate the staging of the Event and to provide assistance to the ITU.

ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002 will encompass an International Telecommunication Exhibition and a Special Session of the World Telecommunication Forum. The Exhibition will display the latest telecom technologies and services while the Forum will address the latest telecom issues relevant to the region. A Youth Forum for exceptionally talented university students from the region will also be held in conjunction with the Event.

The third Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) hosted by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority Hong Kong, China will be held immediately following ITU Telecom Asia 2002 from 7 to 8 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the same venue as Asia 2002.
