Q1: Who is the organiser ?
ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002 is being organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Government of the People's Republic of China. The ITU has the overall responsibility for organising the Event. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has established a "Hong Kong, China Secretariat" within the Office of the Telecommunications Authority to facilitate the staging of the Event and to provide assistance to the ITU.
 
 
Q2: When will be the event period ?
The Exhibition opens daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., from 2 December 2002 (Monday) to 7 December 2002 (Saturday).

The Forum will start on 2 December 2002 (Monday) and conclude on 6 December 2002 (Friday). For the Preliminary Forum Programme, please check out: http://www.itu.int/ASIA2002/forum/programme_preview.html .

 
 
Q3: Where is the Event venue ?
The Event will be held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), taking up the entire venue.
 
 
Q4: Is the exhibition open to the public ? If so, when ?
Yes. 7 December 2002 will be the Public Day and all of you are welcome to visit this prestigious exhibition. Other days (i.e. 2-6 December 2002) will be restricted to trade visitors and students aged between 18 and 23 only.
 
 
Q5: Is there an entrance fee for the public ? Any discounts for students & senior citizens ?
Entrance fee for the Public Day on 7 December is @HK$20. Visitors aged 12 and above are welcome. There are special discounts during the Trade Days from 2 to 6 December for students aged between 18 and 23. Student Daily Pass is @HK$50 and Student Weekly Pass is @HK$100.
 
 
Q6: What are the main programmes of the Event ?
ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002 will encompass an International Telecommunication Exhibition and a Special Session of the World Telecommunication Forum. The Exhibition will display the latest telecom technologies and services while the Forum will address the latest telecom issues relevant to the region. A Youth Forum for exceptionally talented university students from the region will also be held in conjunction with the Event.
 
 
Q7: What will be seen/displayed in the exhibition ?
World's most influential and dynamic telecoms companies will be showing the latest technologies, products and services in areas of PSTN, Internet, Wireless Cellular, Fixed Wireless, Satellite, Broadcast, Value Added Services, Telecom Network, Hardware and Software, Components and Accessories, etc.

For Trade Visitors
Q1: When will be the Trade Days for industry members ?
The Exhibition from 2-6 December 2002 will be open to the industry members and students aged between 18 and 23 only.
 
 
Q2: How can I register ?
You are welcome to visit http://www.itu.int/ASIA2002/registration/index.html to pre-register now. A discounted entrance fee for online pre-registration Weekly Pass is CHF20 and CHF10 for Daily Pass .
 
 
Q3: How can I get more information about the Event ?

For Exhibitors
Q1: How can I apply for exhibition space ?
The waitlist is still open. You can download the application form at http://www.itu.int/ASIA2002/exhibition/index.html and submit the completed form at the same address.
 
 
Q2: How much does exhibition space cost ?
630 Swiss francs per square metre for indoor space and 210 Swiss francs per square metre for the largest additional floor.
 
 
Q3: Who can exhibit ?
Operators, manufacturers and scientific organisations from all fields of telecommunications and broadcasting; organisations representing the ITU's Member States; telecoms user entities; publishers.
 
 
Q4: Are there different categories of exhibitors ?
Yes. You can either exhibit independently or as part of a national pavilion. You can also co-exhibit with another exhibitor. Publishers have their own area within the exhibition and separate rules from other exhibitors.
 
 
Q5: How does the ITU allocate space ?
The ITU will draw up the floorplan based on the most appropriate placement of requests received, taking into consideration those that plan to build multi-level stands (this should be indicated on the application form, which is downloadable at: http://www.itu.int/ASIA2002/exhibition/index.html). Space offers will then be sent out in May 2002 and exhibitors will have one month to accept and make their final payment.

For Forum Participants
Q1: Who are eligible to participate in the Forum ?
While the submission date for abstracts is already closed, for nominations of High-Level Speakers such as Minister or CEO/President of a company / organization, the deadline for submitting a proposal is 15 May 2002.
 
 
Q2: What are the topics of the abstract ?
There is a wide range of the abstract topics and you can visit http://www.itu.int/ASIA2002/forum/cfs/index.html to obtain more details. Please note that contributions focusing on the Asia-Pacific telecommunication / ICT convergence market will also be considered.
 
 
Q3: How would my abstract be evaluated ?

All abstracts received are submitted for evaluation to a team of experts - the ITU TELECOM Asia 2002 Forum Programme Committee (appointed by the ITU). The following criteria are used in the evaluation:

CONTENT: Does it reflect excellence of vision, research, approach etc.?
SCOPE: How well does the content address the specific needs of the region
ORIGINALITY: Does it provide a novel approach?
TIMELINESS: Does it treat current "hot" issues?
CLARITY: Is the abstract structured in a way that will assure a clear on-site presentation?
 
 
Q4. Where and when will the Forum be held ?
The Forum will be held on 2 - 6 December 2002 in HKCEC.
 
 
Q5: How much does it charge? How can I register ?
A Global Pass by online pre-registration is CHF800; for on-site registration, a Global Pass is HK$ 5200 with cash or CHF1000 with credit card and a Half-Day-Pass is HK$1300 with cash or CHF250 with credit card. Youth Forum
Q1: What is the Youth Forum all about ?
  • The Youth Forum is a new initiative of ITU. It was first launched at ITU TELECOM AFRICA 2001 and the first time for Asia at ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002.
  • It mainly consists of four main forum sessions on the topics of: 1) Training and Technology, 2) Regulation and Policy, 3) Financing and Investment and 4) Social/Cultural Factors.
  • A Youth Reception, daily luncheon sessions with presentations by sponsors and other side programmes [Tentative Calendar] organised by the Government of the HKSAR will also be included.
  • Participation in the mainstream programme of ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002 including exhibition and forum session
 
Q2: When will the Youth Forum take place ?
The Youth Forum will take place from 2 to 7 December, 2002 at the same venue as ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002, ie at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Q1: Do I need to register to cover the event? How can I do that ?
Yes. All members from the regional and local press are recommended to make early registration with ITU, in order to gain accreditation from ITU. The details of registration will be announced later.
